(Acts 2:46-47)A small group leader is a facilitator for a band of 7-12 persons who are learning together, supporting each other and praying. The small group becomes a spiritual home where disciples are built, strengthened and encouraged. In a small group, all of the marks of a disciple come to life (a heart for Christ alone, a mind transformed by the Word, arms of love, knees for prayer, a voice to speak the Good News, and a spirit of servanthood and stewardship.) The apostle Paul began and ended three missionary journeys from Antioch which had become his spiritual home. Where is your Antioch? The Discipleship Triangle -a pattern for small group meetings Word - spiritual food Sharing - building relationships by sharing both blessings and needs or concerns Prayer - conversational prayer speaking to the Lord and each other A suggested typical small-group meeting would include 30-45-15 minute segments for the Word, Sharing and Prayer, although each group may develop their own model. Small groups form and equip members for ministry in the outside word (at home and the workplace). The group may also perform ministry and mission with occasional service projects together. Checklist for starting a small group: 1. Seek blessing from church leadership 2. Prayer and reading E. Stanley Ott’s Small Group Life is strongly recommended 3.
