New Hope Endowment

As New Hope continues to grow and be a new place of worship for many, it is also a well established church in its eleventh year.  So are many of its members, for whom New Hope has become a more permanent, “forever” church home.

As that feeling takes hold and penetrates more and more people each year, it becomes important for many of them to think about how they might include the church in their life planning, much as they do their own family members.

Enduring Gifts of Hope is a conduit – a vehicle through which friends and members can contemplate New Hope in their planning in an organized, meaningful manner, both now, and after their earthly work is finished.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the ENDURING GIFTS OF HOPE endowment fund?

The Enduring Gifts of Hope Endowment Fund is a reserve of capital which is invested for growth and income.  These funds will be utilized to provide financial stability for New Hope and a legacy of God’s love for future generations.

2. Why do we need this fund?

New Hope needs this fund to help pay for capital expenditures and other expenses (major repairs to the facility, etc.) that are not part of the annual operating budget.  In addition, this fund will provide our members with a opportunity to include New Hope in their estate planning.

3. How did the fund get started?

In January of 2005, New Hope put together a team of members to begin discussing the possibility of creating an endowment fund.  The initial team met with representatives of local Presbyterian churches to learn how and they established and administered their funds.  In addition, this team also worked with National Presbyterian Foundation to learn from the best practices across the country.

The Session chartered the Enduring Gifts of Hope Campaign on June 28, 2005.

4. When will the endowment fund end?

By definition, an endowment fund never ends.  The principal is preserved to provide a never ending stream of distributions for as long as New Hope is in existence.

5. How does the fund grow?

The fund grows through careful investing and appreciation generated from investments, as well as from gifts, memorials and bequests.

6. Is the principal available for use?

Only the income generated by the principal is made available under normal circumstances as detailed in the ENDURING GIFTS OF HOPE charter.

7. Who is responsible for investing and managing the fund?

The ENDURING GIFTS OF HOPE COMMITTEE is charged with the responsible stewardship of the fund in compliance with the charter approved by the church session.  The endowment is a permanent fund and this committee has a special responsibility to maintain the purchasing power of endowment assets in perpetuity.

8. Who sits on this committee?

This committee consists of 6 members divided into 3 equal classes; each class term will be for three years.  One designated member of the Session shall act as an advisory member.

9. How will the funds be used?

Available funds will be used in one or all of three general areas specified by the charter.  They include: Outreach and Missions, Congregational Care and Building and Capital Assets.  Income from the fund is designated to provide for the initial or supplemental support of activities unfunded by the operating budget.

10. Who decides how the money is invested?

Subsequent to the development of the annual church operating budget, the Enduring Gifts of Hope Committee provides the session with an annual report of income available for distribution (from previous year’s
